{"id":29,"date":"2014-12-29T17:28:08","date_gmt":"2014-12-29T17:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hordiner.com\/?page_id=29"},"modified":"2022-12-29T20:54:36","modified_gmt":"2022-12-29T20:54:36","slug":"the-trail","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hordiner.com\/?page_id=29","title":{"rendered":"The Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Where you headed?&#8221; he asks, leaning on a walking stick. &#8220;North or South?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It looks like I belong there,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">full bearded face<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">showing the miles of accumulating weeks<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as though I started out in Georgia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twenty years ago I climbed the same trail<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clean shaven,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not realizing I could sanctify my steps by whispering Psalms.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would not have looked much different then,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the mountainous forest changing too slowly, imperceptibly<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">like swollen clock hands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNorth,\u201d I answer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Never knew what a beautiful country this is&#8221; he says,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">departing for our eventual reunion at the summit.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s not where we come from but where we\u2019re going, right?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tragic how a man will search a whole life for his own heart<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and never find it where he could have found it<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the same trail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hordiner.com\/?page_id=61\">back to Poetry<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Where you headed?&#8221; he asks, leaning on a walking stick. &#8220;North or South?&#8221; It looks like I belong there, full bearded face showing the miles of accumulating weeks as though I started out in Georgia.
